'Human Nature' (2021); acrylic on canvas; 30” x 48”
A work inspired by a song with the same title, written by Steve Porcaro and John Bettis, produced by Quincy Jones, and performed by Michael Jackson.
Just as the song is a metaphor for a human longing for freedom and more, this geometric abstract, shaped in the caricature of human, is an expression of the freedom that is the ultimate desire of every living soul.

Reflections (2021/2022); oil/acrylic on canvas; (12" x 36" - diptych). With the birth of a new year, the years gone by take a new meaning. The sentiment, though personal, is universal to all, bringing back a wave of emotions, of memories, desirable and otherwise, and the occasional nostalgia for an experience that is no more.
To many, the first day of the new year is just another day, simply a roll-over of the struggles of the prior year, and a compounding of the burden of life. To others, a real awakening is born, a chance to write a new page of life, of purpose and of meaning. It is this gift of awakening that we must all seek, irrespective of the struggles that lie ahead, knowing that within each and every one of us is the will - of meaning, and the ability to overcome, even the impossible.
Of all the wishes that you may desire for the new year, a renewal of self is paramount, with which comes the wisdom to live every hour to the fullest. Beyond the celebration of a new year, let us reflect on those things that matter - faith, family, friends, and neighbors. We should also remember our planet - earth. All these things we should put ahead of our basic strive for survival, recognition, and for success. May your wishes for the new year manifest as you desire.

Composition No. 1;acrylic on canvas; 36" x 48"; Bonegardology Series
A study of geometric shapes, spaces and arts. The beauty of this work lies in that which is not evident on the canvas - background, shadows, illusions and interpretations. The artist, undoubtedly a polymath, takes an extraordinary path to challenge our sensibilities.
A fan of Yayoi Kusama, the artist sees this particular dimension of the subject of Bonegardology, as a 'dissected variant' of the characteristics polka-dots that have defined her style; except that, in the artist's case, the polka-dots are replaced by voids and concentric cut-outs on the actual canvas, creating a deeper, visceral sensation, of elation, and a feeling of infinity without mirrors, and short of the elaborate setup of a museum exhibition. In this particular work, in the context of the study of Bonegardology, says the artist, 'the possibilities are endless.'

Jazz (2022); acrylic on canvas; 36"x48"
This artwork, upclose or from afar, is like music blasting into the air. Very 'Miles Davis' in how it makes one feel - romantic, soothing, and deeply instrumental to the soul; a continuation of the artist's Bonegardology (symbolic study of geometric shapes, spaces and arts) series.
Reflecting on the work, the artist states, "I finally get Kandinsky and his preoccupation with turning classical music scores into art, and the theory of the color of sound. I guess I am doing the same,, this time, listening to jazz music.
*excludes the yellow object and the tree in the background.

Day and Night [The Saints] I (2021) [36"x48"]; acrylic on canvas.
Some artworks exude positive spiritual energy on the viewer; this is one of them! Is this an abstraction or pure abstract? According to the artist, a person of faith, the work started out as a pure geometric abstract with precise measurements using a protractor, a measuring ruler and pencil, followed by what was purely a random, though inspired choice of colors.
The outcome is what is called an 'artist's gift', as the abstract conjures image of Saint Teresa [Mother Teresa of Calcutta], and an unexplained spiritual influence. With the second piece, featured in a separate IG post, they have both become symbols of faith, for all who believe in the power of miracles. If art is indeed the "greatest form of hope", this pair of artworks are proofs!

Perseverance (2021) by J.Bonegard; oil on canvas (36" x 48"| split canvas - four in total).
If art is a form of hope (don't quite agree with it being the highest), decoding that unique human trait, that of perseverance, in an art form is critical in defining what hope itself is all about. In this single word, is the embodiment of what an individual is made of, especially when the going gets tough, dreams are threatened, and what was once considered a smooth sailing, turns out to be turbulent waters.
In perseverance, your doggedness is tested, your resilience is challenged, and your faith is questioned. It's one trait that's much talked about, but unattainable by many. This artwork is a breakdown of the building blocks that make you one of the select few, someone that has what it takes. In its geometry, you will discover yourself, in its vibrant colors, you will find the will required for your ascent, and in the way you choose to orientate the canvas, you will find the inner peace to continue on your personal journey.
